.bcs - best case scenario

I'm sure everyone's heard of WCS - Worse Case Scenario. (book on Amazon)

It is basically a guideline for what to do given the ridiculous situation.

However, do you consider that most people do not hae a BCS - Bast Case Scenario, written BY themselves FOR themselves?

Perhaps we've been overly jaded by the currently slumping world economy or we stay we believe in ourselves, but I think the dream, "American dream", if you will, has been lost.  [insert thesis, quotations, examples, stats]

Everyone will inevitably make at least one big make in their lives, whether it be school, job or relationship.

What if we had written some guide when we arrived that that situation?

For me, I still look back at the missed opportunity with Accenture nearly 2 years ago. If I had written (or at least mentally prepared) about what to do if a good company were actively recruiting me, I wouldn't have hesitated to drop my accounting course halfway, and literally leave San Diego immediately. (First interview question was something like "Would you be able to attend training that begins 2 weeks from now?").

It's not that whatever is prepared for this BCS is necessarily the absolute best, but at least there's a clear framework in which decisions could be made. I think that missed opportunity fulfilled all my "requirements" for a radical change in life ...new location, new company, new responsibility... and while I knew that as I was considering, sometimes self-rationalization is our own worse enemy.

Consider all the awesome potential scenarios, make a list and follow it.
It could be like a (practical) living will, subject to amendments and reviews.

.last xanga entries

There's a maybe one or two more xanga posts I need to write up (such as Parking Lot Theory 2) but like others before me, it's time to move onward. I'll be moving to my site, projectedv.net, which will be a giant blog of sorts and I hope to update that at least weekly with somewhat insightful material.

An end is near but so begins another journey.

And to think,...so many of my earliest posts were nothing but crap I force-fed my subscribers with...

.touch of music

Last Thursday. I stopped by a bunch of rooms with pianos. I walked inside of of those rooms and found myself hammering away at whatever songs I can (barely) play.

I don't know what it is about music, but the ability to play something nice...and play it well is such a gift. Really.

Someone should keep me accountable: I want to play my guitar for at least 30m a day.

I think it will be hard to do so; some people are naturally talented with certain instruments so their required practice time is less because they "get it" faster -- think of like when you try to study for an exam and then think of when your class' curve-setter is studying; that person probably studies less than half the time you're studying because everything "makes sense" sooner.

I hope to get down more chords...I think I only know A, C, G, D, E, Em.

Well, at least I can play this:

AND if you've seen my attempts at cookery, I can definitely bring on the flames!

.Ed's Guide to Writing Songs/Poetry/Love Letters (yah spring fever, i'm looking at you)

  1. Truthfulness

The closer the words are to being completely true, the better your final product will be. That does not mean it has to be your truth (some artists write about the experiences of those they know), but it is much easier to express the truth that you know rather than share a lie that you just made up. ...unless you are a chronic-compulsive liar that never tells the truth... anyhoo,  I am in favor of true art.

  2. Straightforwardness

You can describe the same truth in many ways, but do not delay your main message.

No one wants to read a love letter that says "PS - I Love You." It should be clearly expressed thorough the letter.

There's a good reason why in songs, the chorus is better than the bridge and guess what, the chorus is repeated several times.

You won't get the last word if your audience doesn't have any reason to stay til the end, so make it good!

  3. Timeliness

There is a time for everything, just like there is an awkward-pseudo-possible-relationship-zone in any relationship of the opposite sex. You miss it...too bad.

    Inspiration waits for no one.

So start scribbling away when the train of awesomeness hits you; otherwise you'll be like Eminem and will have to resort to what I would call 'awesomeness-helpers' that help...and then your work will always be tainted without these helpers.

Amazing what a couple minutes of tinkering can do for photos...

How are you changing your self-image?
